Winter in Michigan gives us ample opportunities to get outside and play! Did you see my blog posts about ice climbing? We would get a day or two each year where enough snow would fall (and stick) that they would close schools - but it was rarely enough to actually play in. Since leaving home I have discovered a love for snow sports (especially snow boarding) and live close enough to Mammoth Mountain that I've had season passes the last couple of years. No, pass this year though (the wife is due at the end of the month): we need for them to get enough snow that there is still plenty through the beginning of summer so we can head up just once after the kiddo shows up! Hooray for more snow!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198566479097576533.post-11489786576196563112013-03-12T12:04:53.660-04:002013-03-12T12:04:53.660-04:00Glass lake does look fairly inviting... the whole ...Glass lake does look fairly inviting... the whole concept of "tin can" living looks fairly inviting too. I'd be up in my beloved Sierra somewhere for most of the year, only moving on before the snows came and the roads closed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198566479097576533.post-43886348186506147292013-02-08T10:20:20.896-05:002013-02-08T10:20:20.896-05:00Thank you for the kind words Lenore. I've been a regular attendee of Ice Fest for years (dare I say decades?) and with one visit you have captured the spirit of Ice Fest better than anyone I've seen. Like you said, it's all about community. That's what keeps bringing me back, despite the 1,000 mile round trip and despite not climbing as much as I used to. Hope to see you next year.Lenorenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4198566479097576533.post-25336835095162052742013-01-07T14:53:38.565-05:002013-01-07T14:53:38.565-05:00Glad you enjoyed it! You don't have to start carrying a gun, or even buy one, but the course can help you decide one way or the other, and it never hurts to know the law.
